1. Legal Basis

 

The legal basis for the operation of WISA is as a Section 21 Company that has been established Not for Gain. WISA is also founded on a solid voting membership and the leadership of the Chairpersons of the various Branches and Divisions within South Africa. It is from this core group of WISA members that Council Members are elected which report to the Board of Directors. Ultimately WISA is guided by its Articles of Association which is available on the web site under "Company Information".

 

 


 

2. Council

 

The Council represents the upper-most authority of WISA and is constituted of (i) 7 elected members; (ii) 2 ex-officio members; and (iii) the chairpersons of the various Branches and Divisions around South Africa. Council meetings are held three times a year in Johannesburg under the chairmanship of the WISA President. 3. Board of Directors

 

The Board of Directors is entrusted with the day-to-day operations of WISA and is elected by Council. The Board meets regularly, a minimum of five times a year. 4. Committees

 

Committees are established by WISA Council on an ad-hoc basis. All committees are established with a direct reporting line to Council. Committees elect chairpersons who must be elected Council Members but can constitute a committee from WISA members or Non-WISA members in order for the work to be undertaken. 5. Branches

 

Five Branches of WISA have been established in the provinces of Gauteng, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape and Western Cape. Each Branch has an elected chairperson who reports directly to Council on activities within its area of jurisdiction.  For the details of the current chairpersons of the Branches, please contact the WISA Head Office.

 


 

6. Divisions

 

Thirteen Divisions have been established under WISA and cover the areas of Processes, Community, Waste Treatment and Institutional. For the details of the current chairpersons of the Divisions, please contact WISA the Head Office.

 

 


 

7. Membership Categories

 

The Membership of WISA is aimed at professionals in (i) water and related fields; (ii) water supply companies and retailers; (iii) manufacturers supplying the water industry, and (iv) persons in other work categories whose work, efforts, and focus is on water and related fields of interest.
